Create and manage variables
Create, change, and delete saved variables on the Variables page.
Open Variables to manage saved values your workflows and agents reuse. For when to use variables and the rules that apply, see Variables.
Create a variable
Use New Variable on the Variables page.
Open New Variable
On the Variables page, click New Variable.
1 Name. 2 Description (guides agents). 3 Type. 4 Value. 5 Create. Project is optional and cannot be changed later. Name and describe it
Enter a Variable Name (required, max 100 characters) using a clear business phrase. Add a Description (optional, max 1000 characters) that tells people and agents what the value is for, when to change it, and any format rules. See Name and describe variables for agents.
Choose the data type and value
Pick Text, Number, True/False, or Date, then enter the value. Changing the type tab clears the value field, so set the type first.
Optional: scope to a project
Under Project, leave No Project for workspace-wide reuse, or select a project. This cannot be changed after create.
Create
Click Create. You should see confirmation that you can start using the variable in workflows.
1 Click Done. 2 The new variable appears in the list.
Change a variable
Open the variable
On the Variables page, click the variable name, or open the row menu (…) and choose Update.
Edit fields
Update the name, description, and/or value. Keep the value compatible with the existing data type (for example do not put text into a Number variable).
Save
Click Save. The next workflow or agent run that reads the variable uses the new value.
Changing a value does not rewrite past runs. Only future executions see the update.
Delete a variable
Open the row menu
On the Variables page, open … on the row and choose Delete.
Confirm
Read the warning: deleting affects workflows that still use this variable. Confirm only when you have removed or replaced those references.
Next
- Use in workflows: insert a variable from a field picker
- Use with agents: name and describe variables so agents can use them safely
