Chat and share

Test an agent in the Build tab, review conversations, and share access safely.

Use the Build tab to chat with an agent. Editors see Build because they can use the chat while improving the agent. View-only users may see the same area as Chat.

Before you rely on the agent, complete Create and configure, especially AI Connection, Model, and Instructions.

Chat with an agent

  1. Open the agent

Go to Agents and open the agent.

  2. Open Build

Click Build. If you only have view access, the tab may be labelled Chat.

Use Build to chat and test, then return to Configure when answers need adjustment.
  3. Send a clear request

Type a question or task in the message box, then send it. Start with a simple test before asking for a complex business action.

  4. Review the response

Check whether the agent followed instructions, used the right knowledge, and asked for missing information instead of guessing.

Test like a citizen developer

Use three types of prompts before sharing:

TestExample
Normal success“Summarise the refund policy for a customer who bought last week.”
Missing information“Send this to Finance.” The agent should ask what “this” is or which Finance channel to use.
Boundary“Approve this payment for me.” A safe finance agent should refuse or ask for human approval if not allowed.

When a test fails, change one thing at a time: instructions, knowledge, or tool access. Then test again.

When the agent uses tools

If the agent has tools, apps, or MCP integrations, it may need account access before it can finish a task.

SymptomWhat to do
The agent says a connection is missingConnect the app under Apps or the MCP account under MCP
The agent picked the wrong toolRemove unnecessary tools or make instructions more specific
The tool failedReconnect the app, check required fields, then retry
The action is sensitiveAdd instructions that require confirmation before using the tool

Review conversations

Past agent conversations appear under Conversations in the Observability section. Use them to understand what happened after a teammate used an agent.

Reviewing conversations helps you answer:

  • What did the user ask?
  • Which tools or knowledge did the agent use?
  • Did the agent get stuck because access was missing?
  • Should the agent instructions be clearer?

Share safely

Use Sharing when you want other people to use the agent.

Before sharing:

  1. Turn off experimental or dynamic setup behaviour unless your team intentionally uses it.
  2. Check instructions for private information or internal-only notes.
  3. Confirm tools and knowledge are safe for the audience.
  4. Test with a user who is not the creator, because their app and MCP connections may differ.
