AI configuration

Configure AI providers and AI connections so agents and workflow builders can use approved models.

AI configuration decides which AI providers and model connections are available to users. Business users can build agents only when they have access to at least one AI connection and model.

Open Admin Panel → AI Providers or Admin Panel → AI Connections.

Providers vs connections

ItemMeaning
AI ProviderThe provider type or platform, such as OpenAI, Azure, or another supported model source
AI ConnectionA configured account or credential users can select in agents and Build with AI

Citizen developers usually interact with AI Connection and Model fields. SuperAdmins configure the provider and grant access behind the scenes.

Configure AI access

  1. Open AI Providers

In Admin Panel, go to AI Configuration → AI Providers. Review which providers are available.

  2. Open AI Connections

Go to AI Configuration → AI Connections. Create or review the connections users will select.

AI Connections controls which approved model connections builders can select.
  3. Grant access deliberately

Make the connection available only where it should be used. Separate testing and production access when model cost or data policy differs.

  4. Test as a builder

Open an agent as a normal builder and confirm AI Connection and Model appear in Create and configure.

Model governance

When choosing what to expose, decide:

QuestionWhy it matters
Which data may be sent to this provider?Protects customer, employee, and operational data
Which teams need higher-quality models?Controls cost and performance
Which models are approved for production agents?Avoids experimental models in business workflows
Who owns the provider account?Makes billing and rotation clear

If users cannot chat with agents

Check:

  1. Does the user have access to an AI connection?
  2. Does the connection expose at least one model?
  3. Did the agent builder select both AI Connection and Model?
  4. Is the provider credential still valid?
